Team Captain - Responsibilities

South Wales County and Wales Padel Team Captains will usually have responsibility for one team - typically an age category such as Open, over 40, over 50 or over 60. However, it is acceptable for an individual to captain multiple teams.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Typically, Team Captains should be playing to a sufficient level to compete for a place in the Team; however, the Team Captain does not necessarily need to be in the Team themselves. i.e. a non-playing captain is acceptable.

  2. A key responsibility will be to support the Welsh Padel Team Manager publicise, arrange and facilitate all team practice, development and selection events. Typically this will include a minimum of 4 events for each tournament / competition as follows:

      • open practice (to help identify potential new players and support engagement with the playing community

      • Practice (supporting squad selection)

      • Squad Practice and Development (supporting Team selection)

      • Team selection event

  3. Support the Welsh Team Manager execute their responsibilities and accountabilities including the scheduling, publication & participation and general facilitation of practice and selection events;

  4. Participate in the Team Selection committee to appoint squad and team members to their team. The Team Captain will make final selection, with support and advice from the Welsh Team Manager.

  5. Manage all Team organisation during events, tournaments or competitions. This may include attending Captains briefings, decisions on pairings, decisions on players for specific matches, utilisation of reserves, championship shootout participants etc. Captains may also need to liaise directly with the event organisers to ensure that their team is well prepared and available to play when required (players at the right courts - at the right times etc).

  6. Feed back to the Welsh Padel Team Manager aspects of tournaments, competitions and players. What went well, what could be improved, recommendations for future events - including team & individual development, training and preparations.
