Team - Engagement and Preparation
Each of the South Wales County and the Wales National teams use the approach below to deliver against these 3 key objectives:
provide a mechanism for anyone with an interest in representing either South Wales County or the Wales National Padel Team have a clear entry path and related points of contact
provide a method of creating, maintaining, and developing a high performing community of competitive players for each of the age categories competing at County and National tournaments (Open, o40, o50 and o60)
support a transparent process for selecting South Wales County and Wales National padel squads and teams
The steps in the preparation for an tournament or competition event is as follows:
Open Matchplay: This is an organised matchplay event open to all players meeting the eligibility criteria for South Wales County or Wales National team.
Squad Selection: A structured event with the intent of selecting a squad of 6-12* players who will be be subject to more focussed scrutiny and evaluation prior to an events’ team selection. All member of the squad will be required to play at a level commensurate with the tournament or competition in question (e.g. UK Padel County Championships, or 4 Nations).
Squad Practice: Limited to squad members, this is an organised event with the objective of developing a strong core of players from which the Team can be selected.
Team Selection: A closed event for squad members, structured to evaluate players in a highly competitive environment to select the most appropriate team to represent South Wales County or Wales.
Team Practice: Events/s focussed on the refinement and final preparation of a team for a given tournament or competition. Players and pair from outside the team may be used to support, train and push the team.
Tournament Event: Exactly what it says - the tournament or competition.
